Hand build Your Own Shaped Platters: A 2-Session Workshop
In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll create two stunning shaped platters using hand building techniques and formers. Across two 90-minute sessions, you’ll learn the process of slab rolling, texturing, and glazing, with plenty of guidance to help you achieve professional results.
Workshop Overview
- Session 1: Start by slab rolling your clay and adding textures if desired. Shape your platters over formers, carefully refining the edges and adding decorative feet to the base. Once the platters are removed from the formers, you’ll refine them further. Jeanette will dry and bisque fire your pieces before your next session.
- Session 2: Use your choice of glazes to decorate your bisque-fired platters. Explore different glazing techniques to achieve a unique finish.
After glazing, Jeanette will carefully glaze fire your platters. Once completed, your creations will be ready for collection.
What’s Included:

- Two firings (bisque and glaze)

Working with clay is a natural process, and results may vary. Please keep the following in mind:
- Glazes may differ slightly from reference examples.
- Some textures may not appear as expected in the final result.
- Clay shrinks by approximately 15% during firing, so finished pieces will be smaller than when first created.
- Occasionally, pots may crack or break during firing.
While we do our best to minimize these challenges, they are part of the charm and unpredictability of pottery.
- Refreshments Provided: Complimentary tea, coffee, and water are available. Please refrain from bringing alcoholic beverages.
- Accessibility: The studio is accessed via steps and includes gender-neutral toilets. Contact us with specific access needs, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
